As much as many would like to claim that all the maps in Ghost are sniper havens, they are not. In MW and MW2 you could literally disappear in the grass and people would walk right by you if you had the ghillie suit. I use the sniper rifle on Stonehaven because most sight lines are long. Even though Seige is large it drags because the few long sight lines can be easily bypassed and players move around the perimeter resulting in close to mid range encounters. On the two other maps I consider sniper friendly (Whiteout and Prison Break) it's only because you can disappear which slows down movement. That's why the thermals are so effective on those maps and the OHK of the sniper rifles combined with the slower movement give it the advantage. So do you need the range in most cases no but there are 3 maps IMO that are sniper friendly.
